Assessments and Rehab Engineering

The Soar Technology and Consultant team provides assessment for and Rehabilitation Engineering services.  We assist with the modification and/or adaptation of an individual's work space so your employee is able to maintain employment or complete academic or vocational training successfully. This specialized assessment utilizes effective methods to analyze, evaluate, and identify the individual’s technological needs in order to provide appropriate recommendations and solutions based on the findings.

The goal is to maximize and enhance the individual's ability to perform essential job duties in the most integrated manner. Once Soar’s Rehabilitation Technologist reviews and prepares the report findings, he/she may recommend individualized accommodations ( i.e.. screen reading software, screen magnification software, or any other appropriate tools that match the individual’s technological needs).

508 compliance

Many people who are legally blind have some residual vision. This may vary from just an ability to perceive light to an ability to view items that are magnified. The best design for this group is, therefore, one that doesn't assume any vision but allows a person to make use of whatever residual vision that person may have.

Access by people who are blind is usually accomplished using special screen reading software to access and read the contents of the screen, which is then sent to a voice synthesizer or refreshable braille display. On computers which use a graphical user interface this is a bit tricky. But there are a number of things that application software developers can do to make it possible for people using screen readers to detect and figure out what is on the screen. This is where SOAR Technology and Consultants' 30 years of expertise comes in to review your website, database, and applications for accessibility compliance.
